ClayDay Report 22nd November 2015

29/11/2015

Enid introduced the ClayDay with the development of mokume gane and demonstrated three different ways of creating mokume gane effects with polymer clay.
The first method was a technique modified by Enid which involved pressing tools and pieces of clay freely into a stack of inked, foiled and mica powdered sheets.
Next was the Julie Picarello method using contrasting colours of clay stacked and impressed with tools and objects to make interesting marks in the clay. The stacks were sliced after cooling.
Thirdly Enid showed us how to use a texture sheet to create a pattern in two or three sheets of stacked clay, then carefully shave off the surface to reveal the colours. It was interesting to see the different effects given for each technique and the variation possible using inks, foils etc.

Enid will be showing us how to make these gorgeous Mokume Gane. You can see that the patterns make lovely jewellery.

You will need to bring (optional):
  • Translucent clay
  • Things to press into clay such as cutters, small bolts, screws and embossing tools
  • artificial gold leaf
  • coloured inks
  • mica powders
  • deep texturing sheets

Don't worry if you do not have everything on the list. Another guild member is always willing to share supplies.

The usual activity line-up such as raffle, 'Trash to Treasures' table will also take place and make sure to take advantage of various tools that you can borrow for the day. You can also bring whatever craft surplus that you have and share it with other members.

To RSVP please email apcg@live.co.uk and more information here
